I have been scarred by April Fool's Day

When my parents were first married they had chickens, and when I was growing up they would tell my sister and I stories about their chickens.  One story in particular that always gave us a good laugh was about Larry.  Larry was the meanest rooster alive and he really enjoyed sneaking up behind people and spurring them.  My mom hated that rooster with every fiber in her being.  One day my dad arrived home from work and saw rakes, shovels, hoes, (whatever was in a tool shed that was probably his) lying in the yard.  He walked over to the shed and saw my mom inside.  I guess Larry had chased her into the shed.  (I don't know how long she was in the shed, but I think it was for a couple of hours.)  Larry then proceeded to alternate between pacing back and forth in front of the shed door and walking on the roof of the shed just to torment my mom.  Every time I would hear these type of stories I would want chickens.  So for a time...I think I may have been 7, 8, 9, 10, somewhere around those ages...I kept asking for chickens.  I thought it would be fun to add to our little group of animals.  One morning my dad said, "Leslie come look, there are chickens out here."  I was so excited.  I looked out the back door and there was nothing..."April Fool's!"  I was disgusted, pissed and embarrassed...and then I mostly likely punched my dad in the stomach for being mean.  Thanks for the memories Pops...You know what paybacks are like :)  As you can see from the picture below, I finally have chickens.

Chickens in our front yard.

I will be back next week with new posts including another "kind-of" failed object.  Sewing can be frustrating at times, but I am learning to take the bad with the good (I think that sounds more positive).

In the meantime, here are some things that I like.

Runny Yoke Skirt
Coral Battenburg Shorts

The Runny Yoke Skirt and Coral Battenburg Shorts would be nice to sew for summer.  As you can see the yoke dips down in the front.  I like how it is simple with a little bit of different detail.  I am really wanting shorts for the summer.  I have one pair of shorts and I think it is time to expand the wardrobe to at least two pairs of shorts.

Fabric Rack
Covered Button Tutorial

An easy covered button tutorial and a great way to display fabric.

Headband Tutorial
Terra Scintilla Bracelets

I love the colors of this headband...and the tutorial too.  Great for the days when your hair is greasy, unmanageable or you had no desire to do it...just make sure you wash it every now and then.  My mom has been making bracelets so I have been more aware of them lately.  I like how these bracelets are a dichotomy of materials.

Meet Your Patch Skirt
Eyes of Mars Sandals

Patchwork skirt...yes please.  In the look book Modcloth has this skirt styled over a one piece bathing suit.  If I was one of the lucky ladies that can go to the pool during the summer days, then this would be my outfit.  These sandals can easily be duplicated with a little faux flower action.  I think I may experiment with a pair of sandals I already own.  I like the idea of big poofy flowers hiding my long skinny toes.

Tie Onesie
Personal Masterpiece Earrings

My sister has a white onesie that I am going to add a tie to for Little Mister.  Easy earrings to make...all you need is wood, something to make a hole, paint (or fabric, or paper, or whatever you want) and earring hooks.

I will be hanging out with friends from back east and the fam this weekend so the crafty projects will be on hold until next week.  What are your plans for the weekend?

Have a great weekend!  ~Leslie

  1. Wow! That's a lot of fun things to do! If you only did one a week, you'd be busy for two months. Wherever it is that you dig up all these gems, I sure love seeing "what's next" with Leslie's Craft World. And Runny Yoke? I love puns. They're the best!

Ps. That was a terrible April Fool's joke your dad played on you. I certainly hope you got him back somehow.

  2. @Melissa Anne
I probably spend too much time looking at different sites. And I find all kinds of things that look fun.

  3. I love the tie onesie & wooden earings!
