About Me

Hi!  I'm Leslie.  I love fabric, paper and beads...and I think I may love looking at them and touching them more than what I can create with each one.  By day I engineer and by night I like to create.  I learned how to sew in home-ec in the seventh grade, dabbled a bit in sewing here and there over the years, and then picked it back up consistently in the past year.

Yep, this pretty much sums me up...hiding from the camera.

I live in a small mountain town in California.  My husband and I have been married for fourteen years.  We are working towards simplifying our life by getting out debt, downsizing to a smaller house, and continuing to raise chickens.  Maybe one day we will have a horse or two, and a few cows.  Can't hurt to dream right?  Amidst the simpler life we want to learn how to do everything we can with our own hands.  For me this includes sewing and diying everything I possibly can.

In my spare time I like to create lovely items to give away and to use.  I sew, crochet and knit, craft with paper, and make jewelry.  This is a blog about me mustering my way through making gifts, clothes, accessories and home decor.  I know other blogs focus on one thing that you really love or are passionate about, but I love all of these types of mediums (and any new ones that I will pick up along the way).  I am a jack-of-all-trades type of person and that is what I bring to my blog.  I hope to encourage everyone who comes by that you can make anything...you just have to try.

Why the name Essie Sews?  Some of you are probably wondering if I ripped off a certain nail polish brand, and I will tell you that I have not.  I titled my blog before ever knowing about the nail polish and it just happens to be a nickname that I have had for the last 34ish years.  I used to call myself Essie because at the time I was learning my name I could not pronounce my L's.  To this day my Dad, occaisionally my Mom and all of my nieces and nephews call me Essie.
